IBEW Commends Passage of ADVANCE Act
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Kenneth W. Cooper issued the following statement on the passage of the ADVANCE Act:
“The IBEW welcomes passage of the ADVANCE Act, which is a win for nuclear power and its workers and for our nation’s climate and security goals.
“This legislation will help facilitate the development and deployment of next-generation nuclear energy technology by giving the Nuclear Regulatory Commission the authority to review new nuclear technologies' efficiency while advancing safety and promoting the creation of thousands of good nuclear power jobs.
“Especially crucial for IBEW members, the ADVANCE Act directs the NRC to help facilitate the licensing of nuclear facilities at brownfield and retired fossil fuel sites, helping transition laid-off fossil fuel workers into good jobs in a growing nuclear power industry.
“The fact that lawmakers passed this bill with overwhelming bipartisan support shows that there is a broad national agreement that nuclear power remains a crucial part of our energy portfolio, and we commend Congress for their leadership.”
