IBEW Congratulates Chair Christopher Hanson on Swearing in to Second Term Atop Nuclear Regulatory Commission

IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper issued the following statement on the swearing in of Christopher Hanson to a Second Term as Chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission:

“On behalf of the 838,000 active and retired members of the IBEW, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to NRC Chair Christopher Hanson on the assumption of his office for a second term.

“For the last four years, Chair Hanson has led the Nuclear Regulatory Commission during a time of great change in the industry. From overseeing the first new nuclear reactors going online in nearly half a century to shepherding the approvals of a new era of small modular reactors, he has ably led the agency and never lost sight of the hardworking men and women who keep our nation’s nuclear fleet running safely and efficiently.

“Chair Hanson has always made it a point to meet with workers when visiting nuclear facilities, and believe me, those workers notice.

“As the largest union representing workers in the nuclear power industry, the IBEW looks forward to continuing our collaboration with Chair Hanson and to ensuring that this country’s most reliable source of zero-emission power remains a safe, efficient and trustworthy part of our energy portfolio.

“We thank President Biden for his renomination of this great friend of working people and Majority Leader Schumer and the members of the U.S. Senate who supported his confirmation.”
