IBEW President: 'UAW Victory is Cause for Celebration Across Entire Labor Movement'
IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper issued the following statement following the overwhelming vote in favor of United Auto Workers representation by workers at the Chattanooga, Tennessee, Volkswagen plant:
“Yesterday’s victory for workers at the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant is cause for celebration across the entire labor movement.
“Hard work, persistence and determination by working people seeking a voice on the job is how we’ll organize the South and raise the standard of living for workers all across this country.
“On behalf of the 820,000 members and retirees of the IBEW,
I congratulate the workers in Chattanooga, Autoworkers President Shawn Fain and our sisters and brothers at the UAW as we welcome these new union siblings into the labor community. We’ll stand in solidarity with them while they negotiate their important first contract.”
