IBEW Statement on Affordable Clean Energy Rule
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Lonnie R. Stephenson issued the follow statement in regard to the Trump Administration’s move to formally replace the Clean Power Plan.
“The IBEW has long been critical of the Clean Power Plan. While agreeing that combatting climate change must be a national priority, the CPP substituted ill-thought out regulations for a genuine energy plan that could balance the needs of slashing carbon emissions, while protecting energy security and encouraging the growth of good jobs.
‘While this new proposal is a positive move forward, it is only the first step toward developing a truly bipartisan energy plan that can effectively combat global warming, protect existing energy jobs and encourage the development of alternative forms of power such as wind, solar, advanced nuclear and clean coal.
‘The IBEW is ready to work with lawmakers, regulatory officials and energy leaders in making such a plan a reality.”
