Local 1 Retirees Head to Busch Stadium
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 1, ST. LOUIS, MO — In June, our local’s retirees attended a baseball game at Busch Stadium to watch our hometown Cardinals play the San Diego Padres for an afternoon game. This was the first time in several years that the Retirees’ Club took in an afternoon game, and we look forward to including spouses again next year.
We have our scheduled annual golf tournament at Forest Park on Sept. 8 for Local 1 retirees.
The Local 1 Retirees’ Club wants to thank our members for their dedicated participation at our meetings. Whether you’re celebrating Labor Day at the union hall this year or at home, we wish you the best.

Local 3 North New Jersey Retirees’ Annual Picnic
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 3, NEW YORK, NY/NORTH NEW JERSEY CHAPTER — Members of our Retirees’ Club gathered for our annual picnic at Krucker’s Picnic Grounds in Pomona, N.Y., in July. Despite intermittent rain, everyone enjoyed a day of great food, friendship and fun. It was another successful event and a wonderful reminder that good company can brighten even the rainiest day.

Local 3 Queens Retirees Visit Training Center
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 3, NEW YORK, NY/QUEENS CHAPTER — Our retirees always keep busy, even when retired. Approximately 25 of us recently went for a tour of the Electrical Industry Training Center in Long Island City. Open for 10 years, it teaches hands-on training for apprentices and others to better their skills in communications, fire alarm, pipe bending, subway work and other hands-on operations.
Coming up will be our trek to the Long Island Educational Center, another great project by Local 3.

Retirees Enjoy a Day of Yard Goats Baseball
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 35, HARTFORD, CT — Baseball season is here! Dennis Machol and I went in March to Dunkin’ Park, home to the Yard Goats baseball team, in Hartford to assess bringing our retirees to a game. We chose May 17, with the Yard Goats playing against the Portland Sea Dogs (a Boston Red Sox farm team). The Yard Goats defeated the Sea Dogs 6-5 in a very exciting game! Our tickets included a three-hour buffet, and it was a beautiful day. Local 35 handled all of the original electrical work when the stadium was built.
We want to thank Charlie Rose for being our vice president for many years and for helping President Dennis Machol for all this time. I, Kenneth White, was elected as the new vice president! Thank you for your confidence.
Dennis and I continue to attend the Alliance for Retired Americans, where representatives of different unions get together and exchange information on upcoming legislation. This meeting highlighted internet scams and fraud, which accounted for $4.8 billion in losses to older Americans.
On June 4, Dennis and I attended the graduation for the fifth-year apprentices. We spoke briefly and congratulated them as they got their E-2 licenses.

Local 58 Retirees’ Annual Summer Picnic
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 58, DETROIT, MI — We held our annual summer picnic in August. Our usual venue was damaged by a tornado in summer 2024, and it is now finally rebuilt and was open for our event. We held two picnics indoors over the past couple of years, and it was great to get back outdoors. A catered luncheon, our 50/50 drawing and a good turnout completed the day.
As the midterms loom in the near future, let’s acknowledge how important our volunteer work and the donations of our time and resources are to the future of our country. The dismantling of so many protections for regular folks, the agencies that assist our fellow Americans by lifting them up both financially and emotionally, has already taken place, and they are already gone or on the way to the chopping block.

Local 134 Celebrates Service
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 134, CHICAGO, IL — We would like to give a big shout out to all of our working IBEW members across the U.S. and Canada. You’ve had to work endlessly to restore power to millions of people dealing with the violent weather crossing our paths. Tornadoes, heavy rain downpours, gusty winds — and they just keep coming, one storm after another, with so much damage and loss for so many people.
On June 10, we had our annual luncheon to honor Local 134 members for 50 to 70 years of service. Local 530 Retirees Volunteer to Feed the Needy
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 530, SARNIA, ON — Four times a year, our local union buys food and our retirees and their families volunteer at the Inn of the Good Shepherd, where they cook, plate and serve the meal, with cleanup after. In May, the prepared meal consisted of seven baked hams with all the fixings. What a good way to give back to the community and to celebrate camaraderie with one another.

Celebrating Brotherhood Across Generations
RETIREES’ CLUB OF L.U. 654, CHESTER, PA — At the beginning of June, a number of retirees attended the annual Local 654 Day at the Park Phillies baseball game at Citizens Bank Park. It’s always a pleasure to see fellow retirees among younger working members with their families.
In mid-June, Local 654 officers and members gave the retirees another fine summer luncheon at the union hall. It’s a joy to see fellow retired brothers and sisters at this yearly get-together.
Our biweekly Wednesday breakfasts are becoming more popular with the addition of several newly retired members. These breakfasts have recently included two generations of the Metzger family. Robbie Metzger has been bringing his 90-year-old father, Sonny Metzger, to almost every breakfast. And now that Sonny’s other son, Buddy, has recently retired, he is also in attendance. Just a few more years to go, and Sonny’s third son, Danny, can retire and grace us with his presence also! What a thrill and an honor to have two generations of Local 654 family members attending our ever-popular retiree breakfasts.
