For Immediate Release: July 9, 2025
Issued Jointly with EEI and NECA

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) will join together this Thursday, July 10, to observe National Lineworker Appreciation Day.

Celebrated annually, National Lineworker Appreciation Day honors the life and work of Henry Miller, the first IBEW president, and the more than 100,000 electrical lineworkers who help to ensure that electricity is safe and reliable for hundreds of millions of Americans.

Our nation’s highly skilled and dedicated lineworkers often work around the clock and in dangerous conditions to restore power—and hope—to customers and communities impacted by storms, hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, and other extreme weather events. They also install and maintain the smart grid technologies that are helping to reduce outage times and to keep customer bills as low as possible.

Nearly 150 members of Congress are observing National Lineworker Appreciation Day by co-sponsoring resolutions in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate to honor America’s lineworkers.

“America’s lineworkers are heroes in every sense of the word, putting their own safety on the line day in and day out to provide the electricity that powers every aspect of our modern lives,” said IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper. “Honoring them on this day is fitting, but our gratitude for them and the work they do lasts year-round. The IBEW is proud to represent the best of the best of our nation’s lineworkers and to thank them for all they do for all of us.”

“As our nation accelerates its transition toward electrification and strengthens its infrastructure to meet the demands of energy security, the work of America’s lineworkers has never been more critical,” said NECA CEO David Long. “These dedicated, skilled professionals are the backbone of our power grid—operating in the harshest conditions to build, maintain, and protect the systems that keep our country running. On National Lineworker Appreciation Day, we honor their expertise, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to powering our communities and securing our energy future.”

“EEI and our member electric companies are proud to join with our partners in organized labor to recognize America’s lineworkers today and every day. These brave men and women are the face of our industry and work day and night—often in dangerous conditions—to keep the lights on,” said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney. “Lineworkers are essential to delivering the safe, reliable, and affordable electricity that drives our nation’s economy and powers our communities and our daily lives.”
