IBEW California Opposes Attacks on California’s Clean Vehicle Standards!

The Clean Transportation Sector: A Vital Source of IBEW Jobs and Work!

House Republicans are aggressively pushing to repeal California’s emissions regulations, undermining the state’s authority to set tougher vehicle standards that promote cleaner air and support the transition to electric vehicles. This attack not only threatens California’s progress in reducing pollution but also jeopardizes thousands of IBEW work hours in the clean transportation sector that rely on these vital policy regulations.

The California State Association of Electrical Workers opposes attacks on California’s clean vehicle standards. “The clean transportation sector has generated billions of dollars of public and private investment and thousands of electrical work hours for IBEW members in California. This industry is putting electricians, Lineworkers and electrical apprentices to work throughout the state installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure and expanding the electricity grid. Thanks to California’s clean vehicle standards, there is more work on the horizon. We urge Congressional leaders to protect IBEW construction jobs and vote NO on H.J. Res 87, H.J. Res 88 and H.J. Res 89.”

IBEW Ninth District International Vice President David E. Reaves Jr. stated “the clean transportation sector is creating valuable IBEW jobs and skilled training opportunities. Our members are building the grid and charging infrastructure needed to power millions of zero-emission cars, trucks and buses. This is generating thousands of electrical work hours. We oppose efforts to roll back California’s clean vehicle standards and urge a NO VOTE on H.J. Res 87, H.J. Res 88 and H.J. Res 89.”

Congressional Republicans are attempting to misuse the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to challenge and potentially repeal California’s emissions waivers granted by the Biden administration, an action deemed both unprecedented and improper by the AFL-CIO and over 80 opposing groups. This blatant disregard for the Government Accountability Office’s ruling, which states these waivers do not qualify as rules under the CRA, highlights a dangerous overreach that threatens both environmental progress, public health, and local jobs.
