Frequently Asked Questions

June 2003 IBEW Journal

Am I automatically covered by the Electrical Industry Sav-Rx plan?

No, if you work for a single employer, your employers benefit manager or designee should contact your local union for additional information on the Sav-Rx plan. If you work for a multi-employer fund, its trustees should also contact the local union. The local union representative will contact their corresponding branch department at the International Office for additional information and a referral to Sav-Rx.

Can I still get discounts even if my employer or fund does not have an agreement under the plan?

Yes. Sav-Rx offers Sav-Rx Advantage, a card that allows IBEW members who are not plan participants to take advantage of volume discounts on prescription medications. The card gives users discounts of approximately 20 percent. To receive the card and further information on costs, contact your local union, which will contact the appropriate International Office branch. Sav-Rx cannot process individual requests unless they come from the local union or employer benefits manager.

Im retired. Can I still participate?

Yes. You are also eligible for the Sav-Rx Advantage card. Contact your local union office for assistance.

How will this program affect my overall health care costs?

The Electrical Industry Sav-Rx plan will save your fund money on prescription drugs and help maintain your level of deductibles and co-payments for prescription drug benefitsand achieve that during this time of rapidly rising health care costs. The IBEW is considering other initiatives to relieve members costs for health care.
