It was a short walk from the picnic at the San Diego Convention Center for hundreds of delegates and their families to make their way to a gorgeous Southern California evening of great music and food.
The music at the open-air Rady Shell started at 5:30 with a sunset set from Chris Janson, whose upbeat party set the tone for a lively and fun-filled night.
Next up was Darius Rucker, who wowed the crowd with a mix of his own hits as a country solo artist and selected songs from his days as leader of Hootie and the Blowfish, plus covers of tracks by artists such as Tim McGraw, TLC and Blackstreet.
Helping to round out a memorable night of IBEW fellowship was Dierks Bentley, who brought down the house with a selection of his 18 No. 1 smashes from over the past quarter-century and some covers, too.
“I appreciate what you guys do to make the world go ’round,” Bentley told the crowd. “You guys are a bunch of badasses. That’s what the IBEW means to me.”
