IBEW Votes in the Georgia Runoff
The IBEW has endorsed Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff for Senate. There is a runoff election on January 5 because none of the top candidates won more than 50 percent of the vote on November 3.
President Stephenson's Key 2020 Role
IBEW President Lonnie Stephenson is one of Joe Biden’s most trusted advisors. A member of the Biden Climate Engagement Advisory Council, President Stephenson is on Biden’s 12-person transition team. This commitment to labor’s voice, particularly the IBEW’s, is a key reason IBEW members whole-heartedly supported the Biden campaign.
President Biden will need Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff’s help in the Senate to accomplish his legislative goals.
Why the World is Watching Georgia
On January 5, not only will the citizens of Georgia choose who represents them in the U.S. Senate, they will determine who holds the power in Washington. With a split Senate, two additional senators -- and the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Kamala Harris -- will mean the difference between enacting president-elect Biden’s agenda and certain gridlock.
Thanks to IBEW members and a winning coalition of pro-working family voters, Georgia was among the crucial states that delivered to make Joe Biden the president come January 20. But he needs the assist of a majority in Congress to effectively govern.
A vote for Warnock and Ossoff mean a vote for disciplined, coordinated leadership to take the country from hopeless pandemic to recovery.
A vote for Kelly Loeffler and David Purdue will produce more gridlock. If they win, all of us lose.
