CHICAGO-The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 21 announced that it has reached a tentative 5-year agreement with SBC Communications.
"We are pleased that this tentative agreement was reached in time without averting to a strike or creating any disruption of service to SBC residential and commercial phone customers," said IBEW Local Union 21 President-Business Manager Ronald E. Kastner.
The new agreement, which affects 11,300 IBEW Local Union 21 members employed at SBC work locations in Illinois and Northwest Indiana, addresses the union's major objectives of job security, protecting health benefits for both active union members and retirees, and providing fair improvements in wages and pensions. The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by the union membership. IBEW Local Union 21 will announce details of the ratification process in the days ahead.
