Nearly 100 IBEW apprentices
and volunteers from Madison, Wisconsin, Local 159 pitched
in this year to help dazzle the city with a drive-through
holiday light and laser show.
This is the 16th annual Holiday Fantasy
in Lights sponsored by IBEW Local 159 and the local National
Electrical Contractors Association chapter. With 30 light
displays to set up in a park, the occasion provides a great
opportunity for apprentices to get practical experience,
said Local 159s Lou Eggleston.
"They all enjoy it, mostly because
it gets them out of a day at school," Eggleston said. "Weve
had days when it wasnt very nice but they march right
through it and get it done every year."
Up to 50,000 people are expected to drive
through Olin Turville Park between November 19 and January
2. This year, organizers have added a laser show that intermittently
projects the IBEW and NECA logos. Although the event is
free, volunteer groups staffing a booth at the park accept
donations, which are awarded to local charities in January.
