Local 1 in St. Louis, Missouri,
roughs in the kitchen wiring in the
citys biggest Habitat for Humanity
housing project this year. |
Forty volunteers from IBEW Local 1 teamed with seven contractors
fromtheir NECA chapter in St. Louis, Missouri, and roughed
in the wiring for 20 Habitat for Humanity homes. A previously
dilapidated square block was turned into "Hope Square,"
with renovated homes for disadvantaged homebuyers.
Local 1 works with contractors in whats called St. Louis
Electrical Connection (SLEC), to do year-round volunteer projects
like anti-crime lighting or low-income and retiree housing.
It took three days to rough in the Hope Square houses and
volunteers were scheduled to return in September to complete
the job.
