September 2003 IBEW Journal Appointed Bob Roberts The IBEW is pleased to announce the appointment of International Representative Bob Roberts as director of the Manufacturing Department effective August 1, 2003. He succeeds Robert Stander, who retired August 1. Brother Roberts moves to his new post after serving for 14 years as an International Representative assigned to the Manufacturing Department staff. Appointed an International Representative in April 1989, Brother Roberts assignments have included assisting IBEW electrical manufacturing system councils in contract negotiations, participation on multi-union coordinated bargaining committees (CBCs), and basic industry assignments in the defense, lighting, wire and cable manufacturing industries. Brother Roberts has assisted system councils and locals in bargaining contracts for IBEW members employed by companies including Westinghouse and Celestica, Exide/GNB, General Cable and General Electric, Grand Eagle, Okonite, Osram/Sylvania, Rockwell Collins, Square D and others. Brother Roberts was initiated into the IBEW in 1973 as a member of Local 2249, Bloomington, Indiana, where he retains membership. He served as local union president from 1984-89 and was a member of the Executive Board from 1981-84. He also served the System Council EM-5 as treasurer and executive board member. Brother Roberts completed labor studies at Indiana University. Brother Roberts is treasurer of the Coordinated Bargaining Committee of General Electric unions. Within the IBEW, he coordinates the agreement approval/analysis process as agreement data base coordinator and is responsible for union label administration. The IBEW wishes Brother Roberts much success in his new position. |
