Fortier Named Alameda
Unionist of the Year
IBEW Local 1245 Assistant Business
Manager Dorothy Fortier was named "2003 Unionist of the Year"
by the Alameda County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. She received
the accolades of some 500 trade unionists, elected officials and
community leaders at a May 15 awards banquet in her honor held in
Berkeley, California.

A stalwart labor leader, Fortier is a 28-year
member of the IBEW and has worked for Local 1245, Walnut Creek,
California, since 1975. She is the elected secretary/treasurer of
the IBEW Electrical Workers Minority Caucus, a position she has
held since 1992.
In addition to her service within the IBEW,
Fortier plays a leadership role in the wider labor movement. She
is a member of the National Executive Board of the Coalition of
Labor Union Women and was elected president of the Alameda County
Central Labor Council in 1999, having served as an IBEW delegate
to the Council since 1979. She is a member of the A. Philip Randolph
Institute, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and the Asian
Pacific American Labor Alliance.
