A Local 58 members fearless action may have saved the arm of a girl mauled by a pit bull. Timothy Brown had been visiting a friend after work in Detroit one Friday in May when from down the street he saw a black dog with 11-year-old Diamond Mobley. "I thought the dog was playing with her at first," said Brown. "Then I saw him drag her by the arm." The dog, whose owner tried but failed to stop the attack, shook Mobley and slammed her onto the ground. Brown attempted to pull the dog off the girl, but his teeth were locked around her arm. It was only after a neighbor handed Brown a pair of pliers that the dogs grip loosened. Enduring only a few scratches, Brown held onto the dog (who was later destroyed) until authorities arrived. The girl, who has undergone two surgeries, was hurt so badly doctors thought her arm might have to be amputated, Brown said. The father of six, Brown said he acted instinctively and did not have any fear for his own well being. "I would expect somebody to do that for my daughter," said Brown, who is an installer/technician employed by S.E.R. Communications in Madison Heights. "I have an 11-year-old daughter too. You just got to do what you got to do."
