A Proud Moment

The new Local 90, New Haven, CT, office
building.

L.U. 90 (i), NEW HAVEN, CTLocal 90 recently purchased a new three-story facility at 2 North Plains Industrial Road in Wallingford, CT, that will house our offices, JATC and union hall. We look forward to utilizing our new space to expand our journeyman/wireman classes. The second floor will be solely dedicated for classrooms and training labs.

This advanced training center will be a facility for all of our apprentices and members to use to improve their knowledge and skills. They will receive OSHA training, both 10 and 30, CPR classes, high voltage training, VDV instrumentation, closed circuit TV, fire alarms and much more. This is a proud moment in Local Union 90 history.  Many thanks to all the members who volunteered their time and efforts to renovate our new home.

Favorable Public Relations

L.U. 98 (as,em,i&it), PHILADELPHIA, PARecent Local 98 public relations have been most favorable. Advertising spots have been purchased on local TV, radio and billboards, informing the jurisdiction and outlying areas of Local 98 expertise in training, as well as their commitment to community service.

Philadelphia Phillies home run hitter Jim Thome mentioned Local 98 electricians in a recent Sports Illustrated Article, as well as on TV and in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Lynch family was also featured in a full-page article in the Philadelphia Inquirer as a family of tradition and the largest voting block in Local 98. Bro. Kevin Lynch is currently the electrical general foreman at the new National Constitution Center, a long overdue interactive historic tourist attraction. The new center is located one block from the Liberty Bell, with a great view of Independence Hall, and scheduled to open July 4, 2003. This is a "must see" in the birthplace of our Constitution.

Work in the area is up and down, with hopes of riverfront expansion and building of new schools among our future job prospects. The Philadelphia International Airport expansion is slowing. The Eagles Stadium will open with a soccer match between Manchester and the USA team. A Springsteen concert is scheduled for August, and the Eagles will open against Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football.

The war is on all of our minds, and our prayers and thoughts are with the men and women fighting for our Constitution, that we love.

Unfair Labor Practice Picket

Local 100, Fresno, CA, members participate in an
Unfair Labor Practice picket at the new Federal
Courthouse. 90, New Haven, CT, office
building.

L.U. 100 (c,em,i,o,rts&st), FRESNO, CAAn Unfair Labor Practice committed by Berg Electric Corp. at the new Federal Courthouse has set IBEW Local 100 into action with signs to notify the public. The general contractor, Dick Corporation/Matt Construction, sent a letter to Bus. Mgr. Larry Kellerhals establishing a reserve gate system. All Local 100 active members are required to perform picket duty. We must use all means appropriate to combat the nonunion. Get involved.

Compliance Officer Gary Kageyama reports that Al Vorst Electric, Exeter, CA, has filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Three cases regarding Frank Parisi Electric, Visalia, CA, has resulted in the recovery of $32,723 in back wages and fines. Four cases regarding Mineral King Electric, Exeter, CA, and a case regarding Westech Electric, Fresno, CA, have also been recently settled. The dollar value has not been disclosed. One case regarding MP Electric, Hanford, CA, was settled for $5,221. All these nonunion companies have been made believers that if you cheat in Local 100s jurisdiction, you will get caught.

The LMCC funded Fresno Area Construction Team (FACT) Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Union Construction Trades is in place to raise awareness about the vital role we play in the community.

At this writing, Bus. Mgr. Kellerhals is in five separate negotiations. They are the Fresno Unified School District, Office of Professional Employees Local 29, NECA and two independent union contractors. Health care coverage and wages are major concerns.

Working Class Champion

Local 124, Kansas City, MO, members participated
in the Kansas City St. Patricks Day parade.

L.U. 124 (ees,em,i,mar, rts,se& spa), KANSAS CITY, MOI am sorry to report that Bus. Agent Bill Petrie passed away March 16, 2003. Bro. Petrie was a past Local 124 president and vice president. He also served on the Jackson County Legislature. Bill worked very hard keeping union labor in the negotiations for building contracts. He was a champion of the working class and will be missed by all who new him.

The annual Kansas City St. Patricks Day Parade was held on March 17, and Local 124 placed first in the Business and Trades Division out of 30 entries. Parade participants wore black armbands to honor Bro. Petrie. Bill and his family never missed riding on the parade float. The float theme this year was "The American Labor Movement, We Brought You The Weekend."

The Kansas City Building Trades Council is encouraging union members to participate in local and state politics. Local 124 has eight members running for school board, fire district and mayoral positions. Union positions in government will secure future work for contractors and benefit union members.

We remember the following deceased members: John Gentry, Anthony Licata, Mathew Miller, William Mitchell, Don Peters, and William "Bill" Petrie.

Congratulations to recent retirees: Stephen Dunson, Michael Kelly and Richard Smith.
