Calling All Motivated Retirees:
Request for Organizing Assistance
The IBEW Special Projects Department is constantly seeking experienced
organizers in the industrial branches of the Brotherhood.
"We know we have years upon years of organizing experience
in our highly skilled and motivated retired members who may be looking
for a way to help out our fine organization," said International
President Edwin D. Hill.
"For this reason we are reaching out to our retired—not
tired—members," President Hill said. "We are offering
retirees a chance to remain active with the Brotherhood through
helping to bring your vast experiences in organizing to campaigns
that may be in your area and in need of a helping hand. We hope
that by bringing your experience into some of our important efforts,
some of that experience will be passed on to our existing and future
organizers."
International President Hill has shown his commitment to industrial
organizing in many ways. Reaching out to retirees is one way of
renewing efforts in the field. Many industrial local unions don’t
have the personnel or finances to undertake an industrial campaign
of any size. Any campaign can use help with hand-billing, communicating
with employees, letter writing, volunteer organizing, committee
building, teaching or even providing advice on leading a campaign.
Retirees’ past experiences would be a huge asset in any of
these or other areas. This request for assistance first appeared
in the January 2003 I-ROAR/IBEW newsletter, a publication of the
International Retired Officers and Representatives of the IBEW.
Retirees who have a desire to volunteer on any campaign in their
area may contact the Special Projects Department at (202) 728-6151
or the office of the Vice Presidential District in which they reside.
"We would be very appreciative of any help you can offer,"
said Special Projects Department Director Fred "Rocky"
Clark.
