Avaya Update #19
Thursday, May 29
The company rejected the unions proposal for
a successorship clause, saying it would place too many restrictions
on them. Avaya negotiators passed counterproposals on the pension
plan, part-time employees, the disability plan, the leave of absence
program, the Avaya Savings Plan, wages and the medical plan. They
rejected the unions proposal for an increase in current retiree
pensions, stating they did not have to bargain over retirees, only
current employees. They also rejected the unions proposal on management
performing bargaining unit work.
Union and company subcommittee members met in the afternoon to discuss
issues around Article 4, Article 25, Article 12, Article 15, Article
17, and Article 21. The unions also passed a counterproposal on
Article G-20, force adjustment, which soundly rejected the companys
proposal to protect 20 percent of the less senior employees from
layoff.
The Omaha Bargaining Team held meetings with
the company throughout the day. They will be meeting at the main
table Friday morning to pass articles that have been jointly resolved
during their union and company subcommittee sessions.
Bargaining begins at 10 a.m. Friday and is scheduled
