The company presented counterproposals to our
suggestions on the Variable Workforce. They reiterated the company's
desire to reduce the core workforce by 30 percent and eliminate
the software associate function and the remaining MSL titles. The
unions stated clearly that we are not in the business of negotiating
layoffs. We want to provide Avaya the opportunity to grow, not reduce.
The unions passed counterproposals on the Lucent Career Development
Programs (LCTOP), the makeup of all Joint CWA/IBEW/Avaya committees,
the Employee Resource Center (ERC), Lucent Transfer Program (LTP),
and Healthcare Coordinator (HCC) positions and job responsibilities,
the Avaya Savings Plan, the Reward and Recognition Program, the
Avaya Transfer Plan (ATP) to include bringing work back to the bargaining
unit, and the Avaya Pension Plan.
The Operations Sub-Committee is continuing to meet on local article
language proposals.
