IBEW, CWA Begin Contract Talks With
Avaya
Avaya Update #5
Monday, May 12
Avaya answered questions raised by the union team on the companys
Work and Family proposal. The company then introduced more retrogressive
proposals. Various aspects of the current Lucent Education and Development
for the 21st Century program (LEAD 21) remain the same
but benefits in several areas would be diminished.
During the afternoon session, Avaya explained the latest reorganization
of the Services Organization, emphasizing its poor business condition.
True to form, they believe they have an answer to their incompetence:
the company proposed eliminating the Variable Workforce, melding
the Senior Software Associate title into the Senior Tech title and
eliminating all supply members.
It is time for you to remind Avaya who creates the little profit
they have. Since Avaya believes they only need 70 percent of the
represented workforce, there must be a way to bring the point home
to management that we will be missed.
All IBEW locals must get a strike authorization vote.
Omaha manufacturing is dealing with recall rights, testing and
the consolidation of the five-tier titles. The most important issue
is their "Effects Package."
