November 2002 IBEW Journal Retired Craig E. HoepnerWith nearly four decades of service, Eleventh District International Representative Craig E. Hoepner completed his active IBEW career with an October 1, 2002, retirement. An International Representative since 1976, Brother Hoepner serviced manufacturing locals throughout the Eleventh District, assisting with contract negotiations, arbitration and organizing. He also serviced Eleventh District locals in the broadcasting and telecommunications branches. He assisted national contract negotiations with companies including Westinghouse, Rockwell-Collins, AT&T, Western Electric and Square D Corporation. A 39-year IBEW member, Brother Hoepner was initiated into IBEW Local 1362, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1963. He served Local 1362 as president from 1974-76 and was active on the COPE, safety, grievance, contract negotiations, farm/labor and bylaws committees. A native of Vinton, Iowa, Brother Hoepner served in the U.S. Navy for six years prior to joining the IBEW. He attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago and studied industrial engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Brother Hoepner and his wife, Rosemary, look forward to more long walks they enjoy together and more time with their four grandchildren. Brother Hoepner also plans to do plenty of hunting, fishing and boating. The IBEW International Officers, members and staff wish Brother Hoepner all the best of a long, happy and healthy retirement with his family. Retired Stanley HubbardStanley Hubbard will retire from the IBEW November 1, 2002, after 37 years in which he served IBEW members in a variety of posts in his native Texas and at the International Office. Brother Hubbard served on the staff of the Construction Department after previously working in the Special Projects and Human Services Departments. A graduate of San Antonio Community College, Brother Hubbard in July 1963 became the IBEWs first African-American apprentice in the state of Texas. A native of San Marcos, Texas, he was initiated into Local 60 in San Antonio in 1965, and joined the locals executive board in 1968. He served three years in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Brother Hubbard assisted in the work of the A. Philip Randolph Institute and continues as a member of the Greater Washington Chapter of APRI. In addition to his associates degree in Texas, Brother Hubbard achieved a bachelor of arts in Labor Studies in the Antioch University-George Meany Labor Studies Center program. After 16 years of service to Local 60, Brother Hubbard was appointed an International Representative by then-International President Charles H. Pillard in 1981. His first assignment was in the Agreement Approval Department. A widower, Brother Hubbard has five children and eight grandchildren. On behalf of the IBEW, the officers wish him a healthy and enjoyable retirement. |
