IBEW Local 983, Huntington, Indiana, members employed by Carrier Corporation are proud to announce the Athens Olympics Organizing Committee has selected Carrier air conditioning systems to cool 2004 Olympic Summer Games buildings in Athens, Greece. The local union represents approximately 550 electronic manufacturing workers at the companys Huntington plant, where the IBEW members produce electronic controls for Carrier air conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems. "IBEW Local 983 celebrates our achievements and were proud to know our members manufacture products that are utilized worldwide and will now be a major part of the Summer Olympics in 2004," said Business Manager Terri L. Lahr. When the Athens Olympic Organizing Committee (AOOC) expressed its interest in an environmentally friendly "green" building rating process and efficient energy solutions, the local Carrier team was quick to respond, the company reported. Carrier now cools the new Athens 2004 headquarters complex, home to the AOOC. The new headquarters, in an Athens suburb near the main Olympic Stadium, is cooled by Carrier 19XR cooling systems. Local 983 members produce "upgraded control mechanisms for the Carrier 19XR Chiller that feature an international character display (ICVC)," Lahr said. "Earlier versions of the control board did not have the ability to display international characters, so this upgrade enhances our competitive edge." Carrier Corporation is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut, and has over 45,000 employees worldwide. "We are proud of our relationship with Carrier Corporation, and of our role in manufacturing such quality products," Lahr said. |
