Thank You IBEW Local 164

June 1, 2001

Students at Seaside Park Elementary School in Seaside Park, NJ, recently sent a big "thank you" to IBEW Local 164 for donating their services and equipment to install a comprehensive computer network.  More than 30 Local 164 Volunteer Committee members from the electrical and communications divisions, including Chairman John "Nordy" Nordyk and Assistant Business Manager Thom Misciagna, took part in upgrading the school electrical service and connected a computer system in each classroom and the school library.

In a letter dated May 24, 2001, Seaside Park School Principal Judith Sorkowitz stated, "I always emphasize to our students the importance of treating each other with kindness and respect.  Your members not only treated us with kindness and respect, but also with love.  To think that 31 of your members would drive 90 miles on a Saturday to wire a building for strangers is incredible.  You and your members gave this school district a gift that could not be accomplished for many years."

Local 164 has also been recognized for similar community service projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, Gilda's Club, Project Grandma, a breast cancer research and awareness project, and received the President's Service Award.

Thanks to "Nordy's Marauders" for a great job of not only wiring a school, but for demonstrating to the public that members of organized labor truly care about our communities.
