Union Sportsmen’s Alliance: ‘We are Non-Partisan and Don’t Endorse Candidates’

The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA), the only 100 percent union-dedicated national outdoor organization in North America, is non-partisan and does not take positions on or endorse political agendas, parties or candidates.

In an August 14 statement, Fred Myers, the group’s executive director, advises members of the outdoor community not to be confused by the actions of a similar-titled organization, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) that recently endorsed Republican Paul Ryan, candidate Mitt Romney’s selection for vice president.

Says Myers:

While our organizations’ names are similar the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a completely different organization with a very different mission and function and has no ties to the union community.

As a conservation organization constructed around protecting and preserving the union sportsman and woman’s way of life, says Myers, the USA is working to:

  • Educate our members and develop mentoring programs designed to pass on our outdoor heritage to the current and next generation of union sportsmen and women;
  • Conserve wildlife habitat by sponsoring and helping raise money for conservation projects in the states and communities our members live, work and play in; and
  • Organize our members to volunteer their time and skills for projects designed to improve and enhance access to affordable places to hunt, fish and shoot.

If you have further questions or need additional information, contact the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance staff at 615-831-6798 or e-mail USAmembers@unionsportsmen.org.
