Local 1007 Reaches Agreement with City of Edmonton

June 15, 2009

Union electricians working for the city of Edmonton will get pay increases of 4.5 percent over each of the next two years.

Edmonton, Alberta, Local 1007 is one of three unions that settled contracts with the city in May, after what union leaders called successful negotiations.

“We only had a few language changes and made no concessions,” said Business Manger Martin Duckworth.

The contract affects 76 IBEW electricians who work in city buildings, police stations and recreational facilities.  Members ratified the contract last month.  The pay raises are retroactive to December 2008.

The IBEW negotiated alongside the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 30 and the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union Local 569.  In all, the three unions represent more than 4,700 of Edmonton’s city workers.
