Delegates Inaugurate
Interactive Kiosks
October/November 2001 IBEW Journal
For the first time,
speakers on the floor of the 36th International Convention
used a new Interactive Kiosk, described by President Hill
as a way "to keep the IBEW on the cutting edge of technology."
A convention video showed delegates how to use the system,
which is activated by swiping their delegate ID card through
an electronic reader. Delegates then choose one of four buttons
indicating whether they are rising to speak for or against
the motion under discussion, to raise a point of order or
to ask a question. The convention chairman then sees the delegates
name and purpose for rising.
Hill said the system evolved from discussions following the
1996 convention in Philadelphia on how to make conventions
"more active and more participatory for the members attending."
